Following on from our previous our interst regarding the University of Liverpool's University Challenge team, we are sad to confirm that that have now been eliminated from the competition.

The team were defeated in their bid to make it through to the semi-finals by a team from Durham University.

The Liverpool team, which included locals such as astrophysics student Ben Mawdsley from Southport and biochemistry student Declan Crew from Waterloo, had triumphed over Glasgow, Sheffield in the first two rounds of the long-running BBC Two show.

Their first quarter final match saw them defeat Bristol University by 60 points but they were trounced in the second quarter final by St Peter’s College Oxford.

A defeat in their third and final quarter final match sent them crashing out of the competition, with a score of 100 points to Durham University’s 175.

At the gong signalling the end of the show, host Jeremy Paxman thanked the Liverpool team for taking part.

The famously irritable host commented: “You never really hit your stride Liverpool, did you? We shall have to say therefore goodbye to you.”

Cracking effort from the lads though and we wish congratulations from all at Antona Student Properties!
